Yesterday was a beautiful, sunny 80F day in Golden, Colorado for the opening day of our outdoor soccer Fall season.

Just wonderful. The final 3-2 win over the competition made it sweet, three goals by my Daddy made it all the sweeter, and homemade rhubarb strawberry pie shared with relatives made it sweetest.

Here's a few pix from the afternoon playing with the backdrop of the Foothills and the Flatirons behind us.

Cousins Shawn and Max discuss the finer nuances of goal scoring

After his 3rd goal of the afternoon, BilFish is too tired to celebrate. In the background, Susan gets the assist with a beautiful through ball

We visited Golden's own super-cool train museum, the Colorado Rail Road Museum.

This was the first visit for all of us. I've waited to do many activities around Colorado that I knew I'd be doing with the kids, and it paid off handsomely with a great visit yesterday afternoon. The museum grounds are just up the road from us, very picturesque as you'll see, and really nice to walk around.

We showed up on a "steam up" day which means they have the train running and can catch a ride around the park. It only happens about 6x a year, so it was nice to catch it, really rounds out the museum experience.

We'll be back in October when "Thomas the Tank Engine" visits! Yea!

From calling Grampa on the cell phone to eating green tea ice cream with his new French buddy, Max had fun in July!

Max and Daddio call Grampa & Grams on the cell phone. "Hi!" "Can Isabelle talk?" and "Hello Moto" (as in Motorola) are Max's favorite phone expressions.

BilFish hangs with his Nephew Christopher visiting briefly from hot, Hot, HOT! Arizonie.

Max enjoys peanuts in the cheap seats (the most fun seats) at his first ever Colorado Rockies pro baseball game!

Done with the peanuts and cracker jacks, Max is getting a bit sleepy on Mom's lap as the baseball game goes late.

Exchange student from Paris Robinson enjoys quality DVD movie night with Maxwell. DVD's are great because we can do English with French subtitles or vice versa. Helps us all learn a little language skills even as we enjoy the flick. Turns out Robinson's a big movie watcher, which should surprise nobody with a mother who edits films (we watched one, "Read My Lips" at Blockbuster in the foreign film section — very good) and a father who directs for TV.

Max, Fuzzy & Robinson enjoy a quick respite along Clear Creek in Golden where we took an afternoon stroll, with time out for footie, of course.

Max watched us help our O'Neill brethren move into their new home for a while, then it was time to play.

Yep, Memorial Day 2004 at the zoo!

Max and the Fisher's joined the merriment as everyone decided the perfect weather was a perfect opportunity to head to the Zoo!

It was definitely Spring. There's a new baby gorilla, baby giraffes, and hundreds of baby humans and pregnant women running around. Well, mostly the husbands were running around chasing the kids as the ladies waddled through the park.

Kathy and I and Max joined them and loved our time walking the circuit. It's a great zoo, and it'll be better when they get the renovations finished! Well, we did bring the camera with us, so here's a few shots from the day.

Mom & Max visit the ol' Pachyderm Patch, with elephants being the first "aminals" we saw!

We soon found the little train that goes through the center of the park. Doesn't see much, just a few flamingos and whatnot, but it was fun (for Dad & Max anyway).

I mean, he reallllly enjoys that sandwich. BTW — that's a Bactrian camel in the background, which is a two-humped camel vs. the one-humped Dromedary
